My partner Babito and I are zealous world travelers. We are always looking for new adventures to embark on, love going outside our comfort zone whenever we can, and we explore every corner of the world we can get our hands on! It’s tough, but we try to make the most of it when we travel, even if that means living like a millionaire without having to spend a fortune.
In our most recent journeys, we have been lucky enough to travel off the beaten path and finally end up at the Maya Riviera in the deep Yucatan Peninsula. Anyone who has read my previous reviews knows that I am on a constant lookout for new experiences and wines to try out. Some are simply horrible, some are merely decent, and then there’s the diamond revelation. The Espuma De Mar Brut Riserva was not a jewel, but it was a tasty treat!
EXPERIENCE
Say hello to Mvngata beach club & rooftop, a luxury resort and spa located in the Playa de Carmen. This is the truest version of luxury. Visitors are greeted with cool lavender-infused handtowels, a fresh-pressed juice in a flute as well private butler, everything we encountered was authentic. The staff, the room, and even the artwork were all true to their potential. The Playa de Carmen is that some places will be touristy, but if you look hard enough – you will find a piece of paradise that only has what you want to experience.

THE REASON
It was our anniversary vacation this past year and it’s a good idea to set low expectations. With that mindset, anything you happen to encounter will be a pleasant surprise since you weren’t expecting anything above the ordinary. Being a member came with its perks such as an upgraded room and I was able to experience what could only be described as an incredible sanctuary at Mvngata. Make no underestimation about this penthouse suite. WOW! SEE HERE???
MAYA RIVIERA SPARKLER
As we were guided into the penthouse suite, my eyes looked around at all of the amenities it had to offer. There was a round table set up with cheeses and charcuterie what appeared before I was truly the holy grail, a bottle of sparkling wine on ice. It illuminated straight into the senses as my eyes zeroed in on this beauty in front of me. Kin, our Butler led us through the penthouse one room at a time, and just like the rest of it, the Espuma De Mar Brut Riserva was calling to me. I couldn’t wait to pop this baby open. Sometimes the ambiance and reception set the setting for an elegantly presented bottle of wine; one feels as if they are enjoying the glamorous life! Once opened, Espuma De Mar Brut Riserva presented a plethora of creamy effervescence, smells, and flavors reminiscent of Veuve Cliquot. I prefer to know who’s behind the juice no matter what wine I come across, premium or low-priced. As a result, Espuma De Mar Brut Riserva was no exception, and here’s why.

WHAT
This sparkling wine is made by a mass-production sparkling wine company in the world. Freixenet de México is a Mexican winery founded in 1979 in Ezequiel Montes by the global sparkling wine giant Freixenet. Henkell Freixenet is the world’s top producer of sparkling wines, including Sekt, Cava, Prosecco, Champagne, and Cremant, as well as still wines and spirits. Henkell & Co. Sektkellerei, in particular, is a German-based company/factory that produces the world’s greatest volume of sparkling wine. Henkell acquired Freixenet within its umbrella in the early twenty-first century.
Today, the company is represented in over thirty countries and exports its goods to over 150 countries globally, all from a single source! On a recent vacation to the isolated regions of the Yucatan in Mexico, Playa De Carmen, and Espuma De Mar Brut Riserva jumped (no pun intended) onto me, singled out from their sea of wines. Querétaro is one of Mexico’s 32 states, and it is the source of Espuma De Mar Brut.

WHERE
The state of Querétaro is a self-governing state that is one of 31 states that make up the country of Mexico. The state has seen a wealth of economic growth in the past two decades, which is why Freixenet decided to make it their home. The specialty of Cavas Freixenet México is sparkling wines, of which 9 varieties are made, in addition to two lines of table wines.
The Tabla del Coche land was chosen in the municipality of Ezequiel Montes because it is home to one of the best climates among wine-producing areas. Both the land and its location are perfect for growing grapes, specifically for Sparkling wines
In 1982, Sala Vivé began planting vineyards on that piece of land, focusing specifically on creating quality sparkling wines. In 1984, they started bottling their first sparkling wines with grapes. Freixenet chose to cooperate with Finca Sala Vivé, one of Mexico’s top wine exporting enterprises. They engage in cultural work to further exploit their brands to visitors through guided tours and events. However, it wasn’t until 1988, when Freixenet held 100 percent of the vines, that they were able to govern their production styles.

HOW
The reason for this is that the fruit is ripe yet retains a mellow acid that complements its rich body. The color is pale gold, and aggressive snake pearl beads are ascending to the top to form a slow-moving crown. It’s as if the mousse can’t wait to reach the top to tickle the palate. There are herbal fragrances of green tea, white tropical flowers, and ripe tree fruits on the nose, as well as toasted honeyed English biscuits. On the palate, it’s bone dry, medium tangy lime acid, medium comforting alcohol, medium+ body that finds time to envelop the mouth, creamy and lingering with flavors of fresh herbs like mint and basil, ripe orchard fruits like yellow bruised apples, Anjou pears, and a texture that can only refresh you with its sharp acid to tie it all together, giving you an appealing sip after sip.
Look for the Sala Vivé winery for this solid sparkler that comes in at a mere 12.5% alcohol and is less than $15! No matter what you think about mass-produced wine, there are instances when a brand delivers a consistent style, quality, and pricing anywhere in the world. Never discriminate… And if you’re in the Yucatan, go to Mvnagate Resort and ask for Kin. In addition, inquire about the “Bridal Suite”; you’ll be blown away!
