We all should seize the day (Carpe Diem); it’s ok but how about if we want to seize the night, as their slogan for Sosie suggests, Carpe Noctem (night), It is a great way to start your night!
There are two meanings to the word “Sosie”(So-Zee). The first is about a Mythological hero who transforms himself into Mercury in the play Amphitryon by Molière. The second meaning, which makes more sense, is an identical twin. Because I think that Scott the owner and winemaker just want us to feel like a little bit of “French Soul”.

We used to drink big and bold wines from California, and most of them also have many interventions for this reason. However, Sosie is different. They aim to express the grape, terroir, mainly the wine itself, not the winemaker’s ability, like their Sosie names meaning, the twin of French wines.
I ask for your attention. This wine is made in the Traditional Method of Champagne. This serious wine deserves respect. It doesn’t need to wait for an occasion to be a superstar. It can create an occasion itself, and is fun, exuberant, and timeless.
The color is medium pink, with aggressive effervescence bubbles racing to the top of the glass like an anxious queen awaiting her crowning. The nose is savory, anticipating a shot of oysters on the shell. Sweet cherries and wild strawberries, as well as sweet mint and spicy crack pepper with salt ocean stones, dominate the nose. On the palate, it’s bone dry with lively acid, a big body that complements the medium+ alcohol, hints of tannin, somewhat smokey, and a long-sophisticated finish.
This Sparkling will effortlessly take you to the south of France, where you will be sipping mortgage price tagged Champagne on the streets of Monaco. Yet, without the high cost of a long trip, the same experience in the glass may be achieved for just a little $35 from Sonoma’s Bennet Valley!
I came across this wine on our visit to Garagiste Sonoma County Northern Exposure. We met Scott and this lovely bubbly. The distribution is limited; nonetheless, I highly recommend paying a visit to the tasting room in downtown Sonoma Plaza and asking for Gigi!
