There are only four states in the U.S. that are well known internationally; California, Washington, Oregon, and to a lesser extent, NewYork. The 46 states remaining all have a history of producing wine just as long and are unknown even in the country. Much of this has to do with internal politics, and the 13 years nightmare of a bad Idea Prohibition, that nearly obliterated the industry. Individual state laws continue to identify themselves as either “dry, wet or damp”.The good news is times are changing and states are slowly emerging by ambitious producers.
HOSPITALITY AT ITS FINEST
Anita Kothari and Varinder Sahi, an affectionate couple are producing sumptuous Rhone blends from their organically estate grown vineyards in Paso Robles. Anita worked hospitality in New York and Varinder an engineer merged their ingenuity and the characteristics of the Central Coast to make accomplished wines. The objective of their future is the desire to continue improving while maintaining control of the process.
Artistry into wine
Marisa and Kris Beverly, Santa Ynez residents, whose nails are soiled with Santa Maria terroir, touch their grapes through vinification and express each individual wine with its own personal design. Not confined to experiment with other grapes not commonly planted in the area, such as the Italian varietal Teroldego, while some wines are artistically blended with Syrah. These wines are independently sophisticated, floral fruit, savory spices, bright acid, lavish tannins while giving way to rustic qualities, such as earth and restrained oak.

Babito and I thought our Google maps failed us because we were diverted to an old almost abandoned building with an unpopulated courtyard. It looked like an image straight out of a Sergio Leone spaghetti western. In the ’40s-’70s, it was a major cooperative brandy distillery, who knows, maybe distilling other “things”.
EMPHASIS ON “WHAT’S IN THE GLASS”
Scar of the sea was a shared objective between long–time friends and colleagues, Mikey Giugni and Michael Brughelli. More times than not, there is a story behind the label from an exclusively crafted wine, and Scar of the Sea is no different but justly unique.
